Scotland v Portugal – Steve Clarkes side set to struggle

Portugal will travel to Glasgow on Tuesday night to face Scotland in a UEFA Nations League clash at Hampden Park.

Scotland, under Steve Clarke, are struggling in Group 1A, remaining the only side yet to pick up a point after three games.

Their latest setback came with a 2-1 defeat against Croatia on Saturday. Scotland thought they had secured a late equalizer when Che Adams found the net, but VAR ruled it out for offside.

This defeat extended Scotland’s winless run to seven matches, and they have managed just one win in their last 15 games, leaving Clarke’s side in a precarious position.

The task doesn’t get any easier as they now face group leaders Portugal, who are in excellent form. Roberto Martinez’s side has won seven of their last nine games across all competitions and maintained their 100% record in the group with a convincing 3-1 win over Poland.

Cristiano Ronaldo continues to shine, scoring yet again in that match, marking goals in all but one of his last 12 games for club and country.

Ronaldo has also scored in every UEFA Nations League fixture this campaign.

Given Scotland’s current form and Portugal’s dominance, it looks like Scotland’s tough run may continue. Portugal have won the last four meetings between the two sides, including a 2-1 victory just last month.

The last time Scotland beat Portugal was back in 1980, further underscoring the challenge they face.
